Writing descriptions that convert

How to describe your items honestly and compellingly.

4 min readUpdated 1 April 20263 sections

1Be specific and honest

Include brand, model, size, colour, condition, age, and any flaws. Specificity builds trust. Buyers appreciate honesty about minor wear or imperfections far more than surprises after delivery. Honest descriptions lead to positive reviews and repeat buyers.

2Answer common questions upfront

Pre-empt buyer questions by including information about dimensions, materials, whether the item comes from a smoke-free home, and any usage history. Every question you answer in the description is one fewer message you need to reply to later.

3Keep it readable

Use short paragraphs and avoid walls of text. Bullet points work well for specifications. Write as you would speak — friendly, clear, and professional. Avoid excessive capitalisation, emojis, or exclamation marks, which can appear unprofessional.
